Community Development Introduction

Welcome to the Ypsilanti Township Community & Economic Development web page. The Community & Economic Development Department consists of a variety of services, which include Building, Zoning, Planning, and Land Development.

The Community & Economic Development staff consists of an Planning Director, Planning & Development Coordinator, Building Director, Building Inspectors, Department Secretary and Clerks. The office hours are from 8:00 am - 5:00 p.m. Building Inspectors are in the office between 8:00 - 9:00 am and 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.

  • Building
    Information on residential and commercial building, including pemits. What a resident/ contractor needs to know. Includes all applications and fees related to building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical.
  • Land Development
    Applications & procedures for land development matters and permitting; i.e. Soil Erosion Control, Woodland Permit, Trees, etc.
  • Planning and Zoning
    Applications needed for planning and development in the Township; i.e. Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) and site plans.
  • LDFA
    Agendas, minutes, and information regarding the Local Development Finance Authority (LDFA).
  • Developments
    Overview of proposed and current development occurring in the Township. Includes location, size and developers contact information for all developments.
  • Daycares
    Information on how to have a family or group daycare in your residence. Procedure and applications to start up, register or continue your daycare. Also includes a list of registered daycares in the Township.
  • Meetings
    Dates, deadlines, agendas, and notices for the Planning Commission, Township Board, and Zoning Board of Appeals meetings.
  • Master Plan
    The Comprehensive Plan is the document that expresses the community's vision of how the Township will develop over the next twenty years.
